Just Finished…Book Matched Oak Coffee Table

Live edge red oak coffee table

This table started as I was reorganizing the wood I just finished drying in the kiln. The two slabs laid side by side on top of another few slabs when I looked at them and decided they needed to be joined together to make a tabletop. The rough-cut version of a slab never does it justice as all the character is hidden. Once I planed them down flat and smooth, I knew I was on the right track. I cut one edge of each using the track saw then jointed the straight edges to give me tight glue joints. I did add a few dominos, mainly for alignment purposes, during glue-up. Once the top was on the way I needed to work out a plan for the base. I decided to re-use a template I made for a small round table because the overall height would be the same, however this table would have three legs instead of four and the one leg would be stretched out from the other two. I think the shape of the single leg gives a feeling of movement and the black stain gives it an understatement so the top is the showcase. I hope you like it.
